Art
The "Home" theme art work was my most successful so far. I think it's the most successful one so far because, this is the only one I actually put more thought and my heart into it. My first thought was just Texas by itself, but I love showing people where I came from, so I wanted to include my home town, Pecos, in it some how. As you can see, I put the mascot and the school colors of my home town on the west side of Texas, because Pecos is in west Texas. Then when I was done with that, and stepped back and looked at it one more time, and I saw that it looked very plain/ boring. I looked up a picture of Pecos and found a pretty picture of the horizon. I decided to draw that behind Texas. On this art work, it was also my first time using the chalk pastel. I really liked how the sky turned out with the medium I chose. This piece was the most difficult for me, and I had a lot of obstacles to overcome. Such as trying to blend the colors to make it look like the sun is setting. I used three different papers trying to overcome this obstacle, and I just used the one I liked best. This was my first time using watercolors, so I didn't really have much experience with the whole blending colors. Then I also had trouble with the clouds. I kinda let the paint dry before I started using the tissue to absorb the paint so you can't really see the the clouds. These two art works are the ones that show my growth as an artist. I say this because for both of these pieces, I used two different mediums that I had very little experience with. With very little experience, I really liked how they look! I really like how you taught this year, and how you give us more options and let us decide what medium to use for our art work. I think it lets us express ourselves more. It also gives us a chance to explore with our art, to see what we're good at, and what we need to work with more to get better.

On the home theme, the first thing that popped into my head, was Texas. But I knew I had to be specific and think outside the box. I took some time to analyze and process the art work. I grew up in this little town in West Texas called, Pecos. So I came up with the idea of putting the mascot of Pecos with the school colors, on the west side of my drawing of Texas. Artists Solve ProblemsWhen I was done with the mascot, I looked at my art and noticed it was very plain/ boring. I came up with the idea of looking online for a picture of Pecos, and putting it in the background of Texas. When I found the picture, I just stared at it, thinking of what medium I wanted to use. I wanted to use one that I hadn't used before. I chose to use chalk pastel because it would be good to blend all the colors the sky had. Finished Product.
For this piece I used the internet to get my idea's for the topic, "environment". I came across a picture of fish in the ocean. I liked this idea because it was very colorful, and had a plethora of bright colors. Then I started thinking about what it looked like when I went snorkeling in Hawaii. So I used the fish that I saw in Hawaii and drew them on this piece. Artists take risksFor this piece I wanted to explore more with oil pastel. I never really thought I was good at using oil pastel, but thats why I attempted to get more into it. I used it to mixed the bright colors in with the reefs. I think I could use more work with the oil pastels, because I think it could've looked a lot better if
I had more experience with them. Oil pastel is something I still need work on but I don't think I'll use it again till I know for sure I'm ready to use them. Artists Develop Art Making SkillsWith this drawing, I used colored pencils. The way you mix the colors to make the drawing look like it has a shadow, you have to use a light colored pencil and a dark colored pencil and mix it in with each other then, take the white colored pencil and blend the colors together. I liked the colored pencils because, it makes the drawing look really cool, and I also liked the way the shadow effect looks with colored pencil. Artists develop art making skills #2This drawing, I used oil pastels. With oil pastels, you basically use the same technique as the colored pencils, except with the oil pastels, you use a circular motion to blend the colors together. I personally did not like using the oil pastels... maybe because I need more practice with them, but I didn't like the way my drawing came out. I tried..
Artist take risks. I have never drawn a side view of a human. When I drew this, it was my very first time! I took a risk and never practiced, i just went ahead and drew it. Artistic Behaviors 2Artists develop art making skills.
Artists create original artWhen I got assigned to draw what I think when I hear Man/ Machine, I started looking online for some ideas. I came across this picture of half a man half machine that I liked and thought it was pretty cool! I was not allowed to copy the picture so I came up with something similar to it. The picture I saw in my head and brought to life is, a side view of a man and inside his head was half a normal man's brain and the other half of his brain is made of machines/ gears. That is how my art is original art.
